CLUBS & Block of the Month Dear Jane Please note that Dear Jane will not be meeting in January due to Evelyn’s husband breaking his ankle. Hopefully he will be up and around and Evelyn will be available to resume in February. Thimbleberries 2009 December marks the end of this year’s Thimbleberries Club. If you have not picked up all of your blocks, please make an effort to come in by the end of January to get what you need. The backing fabric is now available. All of the Club fabrics will be put out for sale to the general public in January, so don’t delay if you need more fabric!
Thimbleberries 2010 Thimbleberries Club 2010 Start delayed to February! Note: Our fabric distributor did not get enough of the Village Green fabric, and we are one of about 40 shops that did not receive the promised fabric shipment in December. We were assured that it would be delivered to us by the end of January, so we will start the 2010 quilt on February 6th. If you haven’t signed up yet, you still have time! It’s that time of the year again! The new Thimbleberries Club quilt is out and we are currently signing people up! You may have seen this year’s quilt, Village Green, in one of your quilting magazines. We have decided to do what they are calling the “Queen Variation”. It is done in the darkest of the 3 colors, but don’t let the darkness of the pictures deceive you! We have samples of the fabric in the shop for you to see, and we’re sure you are going to love it as much as we do. You may also choose to make the traditional Village Green quilt, and use any leftover fabric for making one of the 12 extra patterns you will receive as a member of the club. We will be offering 3 different payment plans this year. You may make a one-time payment of $258 in December or January, 2 payments of $132 with the second payment due in March, or 3 payments of $90 with the last payment due in April. There will not be a monthly payment schedule for this quilt because Thimbleberries has changed their club program and will be shipping all of the fabric to us at the beginning of the year instead of by quarter as they have in the past. We have ordered enough fabric for 20 participants, so it is first come, first serve. Sign up ASAP! Note: Thimbleberries Club meets the 1st Saturday of each month. Our first meeting will be on February 6th at 10:00 am!
Elegant Garden Hand Appliqué We are still accepting sign ups for the Elegant Garden block of the month by Laundry Basket Quilts. In this series, you will learn beginning basics of needle turn appliqué, such as making templates, placing the pattern, and a variety of stitches. You will also learn how to make circles the easy way! There are a total of 24 block patterns in this series. You will be required to purchase at least your first 6 patterns prior to starting the class, which are $5 each. The class fee will be $5 per session. Each person will be picking out or bringing her own fabric for this project. We will be running the class as a continuous block of the month, so jump in any time. The class meets once per month on the 4th Tuesday from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. A few new people have just joined, so new members will fit right in. Please let us know ASAP if you are interested so we have enough patterns! Please note that Elegant Garden will not be meeting in January due to Evelyn’s husband breaking his ankle. Hopefully he will be up and around and Evelyn will be available to resume in February. Embroidery Club The Embroidery Club is for anyone who currently owns or would like to own an embroidery machine, regardless of make or model. The group meets the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. for an hour or so for coffee and goodies, demonstrations of products and techniques, special deals, show and tell, and open discussion. There’s a $20 fee to join the club, but no charge for attending meetings. Anyone who purchases an embroidery machine at Sew Little Time is automatically a member of the club with no membership fee. Leave your machine at home and join us for a time of sharing and learning! Make sure you check out the Embroidery Club Projects link to see all the different projects!
Hooked on Thangles Nite Starting in March!
Make perfect triangles the fast and easy way with Thangles! Thangles are very easy to use. You never have to cut triangles or use 7/8" math, or square up every piece. All you do is cut straight grain strips. We will be starting a new project using Thangles every quarter and will meet on the 3rd Monday of the month. The first project will be the Primo Star, which we will start on Monday, March 15th from 6 – 9 pm. Additional projects will start in June and September. Do the projects you like and skip the others! There is no class fee, but you will have to purchase the pattern and enough Thangles to complete the project.
The Big One-Star Quilt Series Starting in March!
Introducing Nancy Johnson-Srebro’s method for making big star quilts with no diamonds! Each of the Big Star quilts features a single large star in the center. Large pieces make these quilts easy and quick to make using squares and rectangles. You choose the size you want, from wallhanging to king. Throughout the year we will be making several of the 14 quilts featured in the book, which also includes small projects which can be made from the pieces you trim off when making the quilts! The first big star quilt will be made using strip piecing and will take place on Saturday, March 27th from 10 am – 2 pm. We will break for lunch, so bring a sack lunch or be prepared to order out. The cost of the class is $20. Book and fabric not included.
Mystery Quilt! Starting in April!
We will be starting a brand new project for us called a mystery quilt. “What does it look like?” you ask. We won’t tell you! Participants will be given a list of fabric requirements and each month will receive instructions for making a small section of the quilt. You won’t know what the finished project will look like until the final month! The class will meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 10 am – 12 pm beginning on Saturday, April 17th. It will cost $30 to join. Look for more details and a teaser from the quilt coming soon!
Beacons of Light
Anyone who likes lighthouses will love this machine appliqué Block of the Month series! The finished qyuilt features 12 different lighthouses and measures 50 x 76. The various sized blocks can also be made into pillows or wall hangings. We will have kits available for each block. The complete pattern set is $60, which must be purchased before your first class. Fabric kits for the blocks will be $5 each, due the night of each class. The class will meet the first Monday of each month from 6-9pm, beginning April 5th. This will be a continuous block of the month, so new members may join at any time. Call to get your name on the list if you are interested!
Scrap Therapy!
Scrap Therapy! Scrap Therapy addresses the stash problem by teaching quilters how to turn their mounds of beautiful fabric scraps into usable sizes…which are then ready to create quilts and other projects with custom-designed patterns. Inquire at the shop if you want to see this month’s project. The club meets on the 4th Thursday of the month from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Join any time!
CLASSES, CLASSES, CLASSES
Ghosts of Thimbleberries Past Do you have one of the club quilts from 2005 – 2009 that needs finishing up? Have questions? Need some help? Join us for this workshop from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 23rd to wrap it up and clear the way for new projects! This is a free workshop for Thimbleberries Club members past or present. The fee is $10 for instruction on any other past projects. You can bring a lunch or we will order out.
Aunt Philly’s Toothbrush Rug RECTANGLE We are constantly getting inquiries for another class on Aunt Philly’s. The "Toothbrush Rug" is made from torn strips of fabric and a modified toothbrush. These rugs are quick to make and require no sewing and have a fast tearing technique which shows you how to tear all your fabric in just minutes. Go to www.AuntPhillys.com for more information and to see some of the available patterns. The next class, featuring the RECTANGLE rug, will be on Saturday, February 20th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. The cost of the class will be $15. The pattern, needle, and fabric are not included. Please call and add your name to the list if you are interested in an Aunt Philly’s class.
Send Us Your Photos! We just LOVE show and tell! Send us a photo of your finished project and we will post it on our website! It is really cool to see a finished rug, purse, quilt, etc. made from one of our patterns or in one of our classes. Seeing different color combinations or interpretations might just inspire somebody else to make one.
Gift Certificates – Sew Little Time offers gift certificates in any denomination for that special quilter or embroiderer on your list. These are great for the holidays, birthdays, retirement gifts, or a special thank you. We also have “Wish Lists” printed up, so don’t leave your family and friends guessing as to what you want! Stop in and make them a list so there won’t be any confusion as to what you mean by rotary cutter, fat quarters, or Thimbleberries book (there are at least a dozen)! |
